George Shillam
Director
I’m George and I’m a director with a national portfolio of clients. My role at the firm generally covers all things audit (both external and internal), as well as service charge examinations, special investigations, and consultancy work. This means that on Monday I might be signing off accounts and on Wednesday leading a specialist rent investigation, there is never a dull week. I work largely with housing providers from the smallest co-operatives to some of the largest groups with listed debt. I enjoy helping my clients in any way I can.
If that wasn’t enough to keep me busy, I also lead on a lot of the firm’s Homes England and Greater London Authority Grant Compliance work.

My story
I joined the team back in 2014 and it’s been a bit of a whirlwind since then. There has been an awful lot of regulatory change in the last few years, and I’ve really enjoyed helping my clients navigate all of the challenges they face, particularly those clients who remember me as a Trainee Auditor straight out of university.
I know there’s a lot more change on the horizon, and I’m passionate about helping to build a team that can help our clients circumnavigate that. I really enjoy being involved in the firm’s recruitment, especially insight days for our new graduates. I also carry out regular training sessions in areas such as rent and service charges. I’m a member of the CIPFA Housing Finance Manual Editorial Board which helps me keep up to date with what’s going on in the housing world.
I do this too…
I dabble in running and cycling since they let me explore my local area as well as areas further afield, and recently cycled across England from coast to coast with (almost) no accidents. At home those around me must patiently put up with my very repetitive piano practising!
