Maria Hallows
Executive Partner
I’m Maria, and I head up Beever and Struthers along with Caroline. We make sure that all our clients, no matter how big or small, get a brilliant service. But also that they get to work with a firm that’s friendly, down to earth and just plain good value for money.
I work almost exclusively with not for profit organisations – and have done since the late nineties (I’m giving away my age now). Most people are looking for technical expertise. That, or someone to be a sounding board before any big decisions are made. I’m happy to help in any way I can.

My story
I joined the team in 1995, becoming a partner in 1999 and now head up our not-for-profit work, focussing mainly on the social housing and charity sectors. I’ve pretty much always worked with third sector clients – and my Diploma in Charity Accounting shows just how committed I am to this sector.
It’s one thing to be involved with what’s going on here, but I need to know and share what’s going on in the wider world. So I also get involved with the Institute’s Social Housing Committee and the National Housing Federation SORP working party, helping to influence policy decision-making.
It’s important that I understand the challenges and issues our clients face, and so I am an audit committee member for a large complex housing group and have been a trustee of an international cancer charity. And as an accountant, of course I was ‘encouraged’ to take on a treasury role at my daughter’s school.
And it was largely because of all this work that I was awarded ‘Best Financial Leader” by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. A very proud moment, I can tell you.
I do this too…
I love to travel, generally as close to the sea as possible so I can swim in fresh, cold water. Having grown up in North Wales, I still miss living close to the sea. I also love city trips, so I can wander aimlessly with my camera. At home, my time is spent in the garden, caring for it and enjoying it, or watching a good box-set! Recommendations always welcome!
